Today, the supply chain is much more complex, involving many more links and processes. Van Rooi is shouldering its responsibility here. 02The livestock farmer

Close contact with the farmer

The process begins with the pig farmer. The animals are raised there with a focus on nutrition, health, and living environment

Once the pigs have reached the right age and weight class, they are selected for transport. Healthy animals are the foundation of high-quality meat.

03Transport

A steady hand on the wheel

The pigs are transported to the abattoir in Helmond in our own specially equipped vehicles. These vehicles are designed to ensure a calm and safe journey. By managing the transport ourselves, we can guarantee the quality and efficiency of the supply chain.

We do not transport cattle ourselves, however. We outsource this task to dedicated transporters that we have been working with for many years. They share the same DNA and quality standards as Van Rooi.

04The slaughtering process

Safe and responsible slaughtering process

On arrival, a veterinarian from the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) carries out a health check of the animals. They then spend a short time in the lairage, where water and a calm environment help to reduce their stress levels. The pigs and cattle are then carefully stunned in accordance with legal guidelines, so that they are not conscious during slaughter. Animal welfare is continuously monitored by Animal Welfare Officers, in collaboration with social organisations.

05The processing

The know-how behind the finest meat

After slaughter, the carcasses are cut and deboned. Thanks to our expertise in meat, we utilise every part of the animal, processing it into various products and cuts.

A portion of this meat, at times already packaged, goes to the meat industry, where it is further processed into meat products or meal components.

06Processing

We season the meat to perfection

Products for retail and foodservice are processed and packaged in our facilities. This includes fresh, marinated and pre-cooked products, as well as hybrid variants. Our flexible production process is designed to cater for daily deliveries and seasonal peaks, with a focus on food safety, quality and sustainability.

07Coldstores

Plenty of cold storage space

Our cold store is essential for maintaining the high quality of our meat. In our spacious facilities, we freeze meat down to -18°C, after which it is mainly exported as frozen products.
